Side Projects

Seems to be a week for side project news, today is Steve Forrest’s turn.

Check out this new interview on mikedolebear.com in which Steve discusses his beginnings with Placebo, what he got up to on tour, how he’s keeping busy during the time off (tattoos, modeling) and of course the fact that his new band (side project only!) ‘Planes’ are playing their first ever gig at The Lexington on June 28th for only £6!

Buy your tickets in advance from Ticket Web.

For those worrying about him leaving Placebo, Steve also says that he plans to stay with the boys until they retire…as ominous as that may sound.

@timomaaslive was interviewed by Mubaradio.ru this week. During the interview he talks at length about his relationship with Brian Molko and Placebo. He also mentions that he is bringing out a new album, on his label Rockets and Ponies, on which Brian will be singing a new single to be released apx August/September 2011. Album to be released approximately December.

Steve Forrest has been keeping busy. In September 2010 Italian band VOV were in London and judging from this video they’ve got Steve on board to do some (session) drumming for their forthcoming project ‘Amarsi a Gomorra’. Along for the project with Steve is Dario Dendi, producer of Placebo’s latest track, ‘Trigger Happy Hands’.

Americans can’t get enough of Placebo’s cover of Kate Bush. The 2003 track is appearing on a brand new soundtrack for teen TV show the Vampire Diaries. The album is available in hard copy and also from iTunes.

Now that the Placebo tour has come to an untimely end you might be looking for some news to keep you busy. I recommend reading the blog of violinist Fiona Brice. She has made some fantastic entries from on the road with Placebo and recently has posted a video for Patrick Wolf, another talented artist with whom she has been working.

Finally, check out the latest issue of Kerrang! magazine for a large poster of Brian Molko. Out in stores on November 17th

Steve Hewitt has been busy making his album and keeping us fans updated with his forthcoming project on his various social networking pages.

You can now get up to the minute official news, direct from the man himself via:

In the latest installment Bean reveals some interesting information on vocalist for the group, “Now that the musical tracks were complete, it was time for me to put down my sticks and lay down the vocals, coming out from behind the kit and fronting these new songs. Backing vocals were provided by Onalle from Roni Size Reprazent and Emily Reid – my daughter.”

Be sure to follow his progress as in the next update he, will begin to introduce us to his new band. Keep the Faith!

Also, if you’re a fan of Mr Hewitt, please come join us on the new forum for his latest work, Heaven & Hell!

22 months after we heard Steve Hewitt would no longer be part of our Placebo lives, we heard word of a new facebook page. Of course anyone can create a page and pretend to be a celebrity, so fans demanded proof. Steve promised that at midnight on August 7th UK time he would come through with the goods…and he has:

Good to see you, we’ve missed you, man! sucker-love.com will eagerly be waiting new news of your project!

Recently Brian Molko was the celebrity subject for photographer Olaf Heines. Zeit Online have published a series of photographs called ‘Artists In The Face of Loneliness’.

According to Heines, this particular image is supposed to tell the tale of Brian as a lonely Dandy in the 21st century. The photograph with model Jule was taken in Berlin, 2008. It certainly evokes vivid imagery from the Placebo song, Special Needs; “…think of me stuck in my chair that has four wheels… remember me through flash photography and screams… remember me…”

Heines is not the first photographer to secure Brian as their striking feature subect. Some of you may also recall the gorgeous black and white image of Molks in JB Mondino’s ‘Guitar Eros’ in 2006.

In other band related news, Placebo have been announced as one of the acts for Rock-Am-Ring and Rock-Im-Park for the weekend 5-7 June 2009.

Check out Stef and the lad’s latest moves in the new Hotel Persona music video, To The Light!

RockerParis, french live music blogger, has provided a great treat for Gainsbourg and Placebo fans alike. Last night Brian Molko performed at a special tribute show for legendary musician, Serge Gainsbourg. Attendees could be forgiven for thinking that they had been transported back to 1997, with the elf like Molko clothed in a stunning black suit, and sporting long jet black hair to his shoulders.

The rendition of Melody Nelson, beautifully accompanied by an orchestra, was sung by Molko in Serge’s native tongue, French, as seen in the YouTube video below.

A message from Stefan about his side project and a little info RE what Placebo are up to!

Hey,

Stefan here saying hi to everyone. Just want to say I’ve got an album coming out in June with my side project Hotel Persona. This is something I’ve been doing in my free time from Placebo over the past couple of years with some friends in London. It’s basically a collection of tracks we wrote for fun to play at parties, nothing to take too seriously! It’s pop music with a dancefloor beat, and lyrics sometimes bordering on comedy. Kind of exploring the entertainment value of music and making something a little more light hearted than what I am used to, something people with a couple of drinks in them could understand and sing along to! Some of the tracks are a little more serious and some quite intimate and fragile, and we’ve also got a couple of guests to bring some flavour.

Placebo is currently writing the next record and will record it this year, so Placebo fans shouldn’t be worried that this project is taking away from that.

Hope you can have some fun with it like we did!!

Stefan

Dont forget the Spanish version of the album En Las Nubes is already available for download in the Spanish Itunes store, and the English version In the Clouds will be released in June. Visit myspace.com/hotelpersona for more info.
