I Like Music caught up with Stefan Olsdal and new addition to the band Steve Forrest to chat about their sixth album, the difficulties they faced before Steve joined the band and the effect that digital media has had on both Placebo and the music industry as a whole.

We are trying to freak out as many goths as we can” -that actually could work, since Placebo included unfamiliar brass instruments in their new record. But what to do, when the gothic-girlies fall in love with the new young californian drummer? Lets ask uncle molko and uncle olsdal – and gain laughter.

Stefan was in Amsterdam recently, he caught up with Spinner for a quick chat. Thanks to _boyangel for the translation.

After ink black “Meds” from 2006, it was quiet for a while around the three-piece.

Sworn friends singer/guitarist/front man Brian Molko and bassist Stefan Olsdal separate with their drummer, Steve Hewitt. They only found inspiration for new material again when Steve Forrest was introduced as new band member.

“Battle For The Sun” is more positive than their older work from the alternative rockers.

Spinner talked in a hotel bar in Amsterdam with bassist Olsdal, about the new album and the life of a rockstar in such a controversial band.

The bassist seems shy, he chooses his words carefully and every now and then he stares out of the window dreamily. Not very surprising since it’s over 20 degrees outside.

Outside is the real life, but wasn’t it exactly that kind of life that Placebo wanted to escape from?

French newspaper Le Parisien ran this article on April 7th 2009. The focus of the article is on Molko’s french experiences, but it does delve into the subject of the band’s mortality and the somewhat sensitive issue of the departed Steve Hewitt.

Placebo Saved Themself

Worn down by fatigue, the English band remained silent for three years. Leader Brian Molko explains it for the first time, before a new album coming out.

Here comes Placebo again. The favorite British band of romantic teens, the one which found its biggest crowds in France where they sell thousands of albums and sell out Bercy’s and Zénith’s. Since “Meds”, in 2006, the trio had not given any news. The next step comes with “Battle for the Sun”, a sixth album, in stores June 8.

A new album and a brand new Placebo, without forgetting their basics: melancholy, darkness, androgynous. An image incarnated by the leader, Brian Molko, 36 years old, bilingual icon. Yesterday afternoon, just arriving in Paris, he gave us his very first interview. In French.
