April 2006

It seems like it was only yesterday that Placebo appeared on the scene with their self-titled album complete with androgynous alt. rock anthems, yet at the same time we’ve known them our entire lifetime, right?

Well it appears that plans are underfoot to commemorate this momentous event with a re-release of the band’s first album set for 17th July 2006! Amazon.co.uk confirms the release of the CD whilst 101cd has provided extra information saying that (at least on some editions) we’ll be spoilt with yet another DVD addition! No news as of yet regarding specific content of the CD or DVD. Keep an eye on suckerlove for more!

Astralwerks, Placebo’s american record label have recently jumped on board with MySpace to help the band spread news to more fans, particularly americans. Though I’m not a huge fan of the format I’m told it’s the place to be; so it is a good way for bands, commercial or otherwise, to get exclusive news and multimedia previews to their fans! Those interested can visit and ‘friend’ the Placebo MySpace; tell them sucker-love.com sent you!

Other Placebo related MySpace accounts include:

Hotel Persona, Stefan’s side project (more info). The band have a new sample on their space called El Mar. The song is spanish and it features Ramon Ruiz (spanish guitar) and the flamenco singer Olayo.

TOUR: Stefan & David will be DJing in Europe in May; the confirmed dates so far are:
    4 May – Gasoline, Milano
    12 May – Razzmatazz, Barcelona

Xavior Roide; beloved ex live, SWG tour ‘member’ of Placebo has a plethora of projects on going. Listen to samples of his music, those in the London area should check out his live shows and you can visit his official website here.

Pick up the latest issue of Kerrang! for a review of the UK Birmingham gig. Also Pure Morning made it to #81 of their Best Music Videos.

If you have some slash (or general good live band) images that you took on tour, feel free to send in an email and we’ll try and get them on the site! (more…)

Celebrities will reveal for the first time the most important children in their lives – in one of the most personal, intimate exhibitions Proud Galleries has seen yet. The show, by photographer Scarlet Page, and in association with the charity War Child, explores the deep bond that exists between child and carer.

War Child works with children in conflict areas to make sense of how the chaos of war can destroy even the most fundamental family connections, and to help rebuild the ties that bind. This exhibition will capture the softer side of some of the UK’s most recognisable faces. From musicians to actors, designers and dancers; from unborn babies to grown up children, each of the portraits resonates at a universal level. The mission and ethos of War Child inspired Page to explore the most powerful of human relationships – by capturing the very private moments of very public figures on film.

With portraits of some celebrities better known for eyebrow-raising antics than child-raising tactics – including Sadie Frost, Shaun Ryder and Keith Allen – the exhibition offers a series of acutely tender moments that look beyond the famous face – and capture the parent, godparent, and aunt or uncle that exists in all of us.

To the left you can view Page’s image of Brian Molko with son Cody. Available for purchase here

According to Xfm Placebo’s next single will be Infra-red. After some mixed speculation apparently it’s set for release later this year on June 19th, (subject to change). Other sources say ’twill be a June release. As always, we’ll wait and see!

It’s late notice but Placebo will perform tracks from Meds live on the Steve Lamacq show, Radio 1 at 10pm on Monday night 10th April.
- Here’s a time conversion link for the event, for those who wish to listen but are not living in the UK.

I’ve had some fans report back about the UK gigs and send me some of their pictures (anyone got some slash?). I’m glad to hear that the 2006 Meds tour has got off to a great start with an exciting set list including oldies such as Come Home & Nancy Boy mixed in with many new Meds tracks. I look forward to hearing from more of you!

Australians, nothing is confirmed but stay close for news about Placebo touring Oz toward the end of 2006, possibly Sept/Oct of this year.
