Placebo have had to postpone the first show of their arena tour in Lille this Friday night (29th September).

Brian Molko came down with severe tonsillitis on Sunday night. He saw a specialist on Tuesday and was immediately admitted to hospital where he spent Tuesday and Wednesday night on an intravenous drip. Brian was released from hospital this morning (Thursday) and is under doctors orders to rest for 48 hours. His doctor has ruled out a show on Friday night.

Brian is now fighting to be fit for Saturday’s show in Lille. At present, we very much hope this show will go ahead and, subject to doctors ok, this is our intention. Please check Placeboworld for updates regarding any further necessary cancellations.

Placebo very much regret having to cancel a show and are aware how disappointing this is for the fans who’ve bought tickets and have been waiting a long time to see the band. Brian is devastated at the timing of this illness and apologises to all the fans. It’s particularly disappointing as this was the very first show of the band’s autumn European arena tour.

They will however be re-scheduling the show and all tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled date, see Placeboworld for details. For those that wish to have their tickets refunded, please contact their point of purchase.

Thanks to all for your understanding.

Throughout their festival shows this year Placebo and Franz Ferdinand have had a documentary crew following them, not only filming their sets but also behind the scenes footage. The result of this is set to air on the station Arte on September 28th. In the meantime and if you don’t have the station you can view previews of the footage here.

After the Beijing Pop Festival this weekend Placebo will soon arive in Australia for a brief stint of gigs. However before fans are treated to their live performances they can be seen on the variety TV show Rove [live]. According to the website they will play the track Meds at the end of the show. Channel 10, Tuesday 12th September, 9:30pm.

Additionally Australian fans can find an exclusive Q&A with Brian Molko in the September 20th edition of JMag.

There’s plenty of tour pictures and reviews floating around. Seems our friendly bassist Stefan has taken to smashing his bass and according to press reports there was plenty of noise to be heard coming from the boy’s camp at Reading. So it’s good to hear that they haven’t lost that rock n roll spirit! Members of our suckerlove_ community have been given (private) access to video footage of Brian and Stef back to their playful & endearing antics on stage whilst in Istanbul the other evening.
