March 2007

Brian and Stefan have each had their turn, it has now come to light that Placebo’s drummer, Steve Hewitt, has been plotting away for his own side project slated for mixing September 2007, release in 2008.

Even though Placebo drummer Steven Hewitt has given the last 11 years of his life to Placebo he confesses that he’s starting to want to experiment with different sounds. And that is why he has been grouping his own album, currently titled ‘Ancient B’ for which he has contacted Robert Smith from The Cure to collaborate as a vocalist, but he also has found a loyal sidekick in bassist Jon Thorne, from the electronic band Lamb.

STEVE: I called Robert Smith to collaborate on a couple of songs, but mostly I’ve been working with Jon Thorne, from the band Lamb. He’s a great friend from Manchester and we’ve been working in my house studio. The album is currently titled Ancient B and it’s like drum & bass and dance. I’m expecting it’ll be ready to be mixed by September.

sucker-love.com has discovered that this news is confirmed via bassist Jon Thorne’s diary, as seen on his website, dated back in January of this year!

Hopefully these side projects are providing a much needed variation to our boy’s musical diets and are perhaps a testiment to the theory that monogamy will only decay long term relationships ;)

Cat Morely of Cut Out + Keep interviewed Brian Molko in mid February this year; read what he had to say and visit her blog to see exclusive pictures.

Molko hopes that he will still be making music in ten years time. “I’m completely unemployable, so this is all I’ve got really.”

“I do have a title for the next album, but I don’t have any songs for it yet” and contradicting online statements, there is no planned released date. He concludes, “It amazes me that someone has posted something that I haven’t even thought about. Thanks for telling me when my album’s going to come out, Wikipedia.” (more…)
