Brian Molko, 34, is a singer-songwriter with the rock band Placebo. Born in America, he moved to London at the age of 17 to study drama at Goldsmiths College. He formed the band Placebo, in 1996. Brian lives in east London with his partner and son. Placebo’s latest album, ‘Meds’, is out now on Elevator.

The first time I ever saw Brix was on TV. I grew up in Luxembourg in the 1980s and there was this legendary show called Snub TV, where a lot of people of my generation got introduced to alternative music. I liked her song so much that I went out and bought the cassette. That was my first introduction to her: a kooky American lady on TV.

Cut to London, 2002, and I was finally moving into my dream loft apartment. My mate and I were dragging all my stuff up in the lift and on one of these trips I ran into this American woman. I said “Hi, I’m Brian” and she said “Hi, I’m Brix”. I couldn’t believe it. I was moving in next door to the living legend who I’d been listening to for 10 years. (more…)

If Lithuania weren’t going to allow anti-discrimination rallies, then leave it to Brian and Stefan to stage their own two man protest, as seen here! Stefan has since spoken out (on their official MySpace) regarding the motivation of their actions that night in Vilnius, Lithuania:

Every year the European Union sends a bus around Europe to promote anti-discrimination rallies. This year in May the mayor of Vilnius banned it from entering the capital city of Lithuania. The reasons for this, he said was that it would cause riots and unrest. He has in the past supported actions that have put a stop to pro tolerance of minorities and sexual orientation in the workspace. (more…)

Famous for being famous, Bam Margera (pictured left with Brian Molko) hosts BamRadio on SIRIUS satellite radio. During a recent show which aired on May 28, 2007, Bam announced that Placebo have written a brand new track for a forthcoming compilation CD, Viva la Bands vol:II. The album, consisting of tracks from a variety of alternative artists, is set to be released through Filthy Note Records late in 2007, approximately three months time.

It is expected that a tour of the bands featuring on the compilation will be announced coinsiding with the CD release, however at this stage it is not anticipated that Placebo will be involved.

sucker-love.com can provide you with an audio snippet of the annoucement.

EDIT 05/07/07 - According to new tracklistings it has been confirmed that Bam got it all wrong.

On May 31st 2007, Placebo returned to Vilnius, Lithuania as part of their ongoing Meds tour.

The concert was held at Utenos Arena, however before the band took their musical instruments in hand, the crowd were witness to an affectionate (and likely political) display by lead singer Brian Molko and bassist Stefan Olsdal. Concert goers revealed that, Stefan, with the word ‘HOMO’ emblazend accross his torso, walked onto the the Arena stage, knelt and waited for Brian to enter. Upon doing so, Molko and Olsdal locked lips for the entire crowd to see… a kiss that is now being heard round the world in advocacy of gay rights.

Though the pair made no vocal revelation explaining their acts, the current state of unrest in Lithuania regarding the acceptance of gay rights is suggested to be the catalyst.

Well boys, you’ve certainly got our attention, but then you always have. Here’s hoping you’re able to break down a few barriers…or at least get people talking about the issue. Good to see you having fun in the process! ;)

Whilst in New York Brian Molko received a call from Will Francis, lead singer of Aiden. It seems Wil has somewhat of a fanboy crush on Brian and Placebo. Luckily for us their phonecall conversation is featured in the latest (June 2007) issue of American magazine, Alternative Press.
