PLACEBO have today announced they have been forced to postpone their forthcoming tour of North America after their lead singer, Brian Molko, collapsed on stage at Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka, Japan. Brian had picked up a virus in Asia which, coupled with jet lag and exhaustion, caused the problem after the first song.

Brian is now back home in London recovering, but has been ordered by his doctors to take a 6 week long period of rest. Regrettably therefore, the band and management have no option but to postpone the forthcoming North American tour.

Riverman Management commented, “This is pretty devastating for everyone – we’ve only ever cancelled 3 shows in Placebo’s 14 year history, however Brian’s health is paramount. Our sincere apologies go out to Placebo’s loyal American fans who have waited a long time to see the band. We will try and do everything to re-arrange the dates as soon as possible”.

The band have had an intensive worldwide schedule this year, promoting their 6th studio album ‘Battle for the Sun’, this includes 24 high profile festival performances over the summer, an unprecedented amount for any band in 2009.

Tickets can be refunded at the point of purchase.

Please keep checking PLACEBOWORLD.co.uk for any additional information.

On August 9th Placebo were set to peform on the main stage at the Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka, Japan. In fact they did perform (see image, left), but only for one song. As has come to be the case the band intro’d with Kitty Litter; however immediately after the song finished concert goers report that Brian Molko suddenly collapsed on stage. Leaving onlookers, crew and bandmates stunned Brian was quickly whisked off stage whereupon he was immediately tended to by medical staff.

The band’s official website has since released a statement emphasising that thanks to prompt and professional help, Brian is recovering well. The reasons for fainting on stage have been cited as “a gruelling and intensive schedule” which included the band playing 5 different countries in just 9 days. This combined with a virus picked up by the petite singer eventually took their toll.

Finally, with concern towards their fans who had lost out on a concert, the band have said, “we would like to extend our grateful thanks and sincere apologies to the fans who made a huge effort travelling to see us in Osaka, especially after long queue’s in the heavy rain.”

Take care Brian, we’re all wishing you well.

22 months after we heard Steve Hewitt would no longer be part of our Placebo lives, we heard word of a new facebook page. Of course anyone can create a page and pretend to be a celebrity, so fans demanded proof. Steve promised that at midnight on August 7th UK time he would come through with the goods…and he has:
